Holy SH*T - Z06 on Autobahn
Just curious...any member here ever go this fast? I cant even imagine the stones it would take to do that. Any little squirrel, tire fragment in the road..hell even a bird hitting the windshield and you're in a world of hurt or worse.

130 in the Silverado when it bounced off the fuel cutoff. (Stupid design BTW, should be an ignition cutoff).

Years ago I got sick of hitting the limiter on my SS, so I removed it and have since pushed it past the magical 162mph number several times.
There was a big thread about it where I worked at figuring out how fast I was actually going based on the tach but if I recall one of the calculator's said 176ish, and the other was low 180ish (both using the exact same information.)

I hit 150 in the ss last month on the autobahn. I was too scared to take it any faster but it was still pulling. I go about 110 in my Golf on my way to work just about every morning. That feels like about 150 in the camaro. Speaking of Z06s on the autobahn I saw a C6 ZO6 on it the other day. Bad thing is it was on the back of a flatbed almost in two pieces.

 It's not a stupid design.
An ignition cutoff on a vehicle equipped with a catalyst will cause the catalyst to be destroyed.
Fastest I have ever gone is 140 was in my 1995 Z28 with someone else driving. The fastest I have ever driven is about 120.

A few years ago, I asked dad how fast he got his 1970 Cuda up to when he had it.
"Son, I got that car to 135 and I've got to tell you.... at that speed, the lines move so fast, they look like they're one solid line..............
umm......
How fast have you gotten the trans am?"
" :hands dad a picture:
 "
" damn son! has your mother seen this?"
" "
" Good! "

176 in a 550 RWHP c5 zo6.
I didnt stay at those speeds long. I think its funny when people say that at XXXX speed the white stripes get solid sold. They might look solid but you can definately tell they arent.

165 in the Supra. Felt pretty solid.
159 in the Chevelle - 6200rpm with GV overdrive. Had a buddy pacing me on a streetbike, so it wasn't probably quite that fast, but it felt fast enough.

Bouncing off my limiter at around 5800 RPM in 3rd gear with a 3.55 rear in the 67. Not that fast, maybe 135 tops. But in an old ass vehicle like that.....it felt more than fast enough for me.

Is there any concern that cutting fuel under high load and WOT will cause an instant lean condition which will destroy the engine?

I wound my 5.0 with bolt-ons out a few times so that was, what, between 140-150?
Come to think of it, I believe I have topped out every single car I've ever owned or that my parents owned while I lived there. Whether it was one of my mustangs or my mom's 87 Suburban.

120 something in the 1/4 mile and 175-180 on a toll road in my previous 470 rwhp trans am stripped down, blew a head gasket in the process.. I was a mega moron back in the day, pegged that speedo more times than I can remember.

Absolutely not. No fuel is not a "lean condition". No fuel; no heat. When the engine is operating below cutoff it's more than adequately fueled. When it's turning but in cutoff there's no fuel.
You could drive on the fuel cutoff for a week and no damage would occur. If you had an ignition cutoff it would pour unburned fuel into the exhaust along with a bunch of air which would instantly cause the catalyst to melt.
The only time a fuel cutoff is a problem is if you hit it in a car equipped with nitrous oxide while spraying. Car companies can't design cars to be sprayed - sorry.

I've pegged the limiter in every Fbody Ive had plus the black one I used to have which was modded and had the limiter removed...and it was pulling past the 160 mark on the speedo.
Recently though, fastest Ive been was last weekend in Mexico bombing down a closed dirt/sand road in my rock crawler at 80+mph. I had to calculate it since I was pushing 3000rpm w/ 3.73's and 35" tires...which shows 86mph, but it didnt really feel that fast.
EDIT: I forgot on the way down we were going 85+ with the truck/trailer/crawler. Loaded weight was around 13k lbs. That was also on Mexican roads, which happen to be better than alot of roads here

I would go that fast if I could. I would love to have a Z06 or ZR1 on a racetrack or the autobahn.
Fastest I have been is 160 on a racetrack and 135 on the highway in my SS.

Yeah, I had my mustang at 120... thing felt like it was going to take flight any second, but wasn't quite sure which way it wanted to go yet. That car gets freaking scary above 100. But it doesn't have any problem getting up there...
If I had a newer fast car I probably would have one of those shiny 160 mph runs under my belt.

Who knows how fast I was going??!?!?!

163 mph in my CTS-V. Most stable car I have ever been in at that speed. The second being my old Lexus SC400. That car would run 150 mph all day long. My old 2002 Ram Air TA at 145 mph would get freaking scary. Always seemed like it was about to lift.

When you're talking about speeds of 150+ on a public road, the gap between those who say they've done it and those who have actually done it gets exponentially wider. You really cannot appreciate how fucking fast that is until you've done it, and some may never do it again once they've done it.
I can vouch that the side windows on a C5 actually 'pop' outward slightly at ~155 mph. I was scared shitless.
150+ on a public roadway is absolutely dumb. Mugging for the camera at 200 is equally dumb.

I ran out of road (traffic ahead) at 130mph, but that was fast enough for being on a public road.
