My friend has a 99 Viper GTS and I call tell you the price for a hood on his car is around the same amount of money. That was in 2002 when he had a fender bender. Each wheel was like $2k. And I am going by what he told me.

And yes a huge

yeah, but that was a huge clamshell piece that made up the whole front of the car.

This is a standard hood.

Not to mention the price is now $23k, AND YOU HAVE TO SEND THE DAMAGED PARTS BACK

While the price is nuts, the KR is so limited in production that you'd expect replacement parts to be high. Not THIS high mind you, but high.

Especially since the 2010 puts out the same amount of power and probably has better handling. The KR was for collectors IMO.

I hope someone who has a business making aftermarket parts owns one and undercuts the living bejeezus of Shelby.

I know it's expensive to get custom pieces made. But that's on the far side of too much.

There is no way their variable cost is so high to recipocate to a 18k hood, not to mention 90% of that stuff.

The Carbon Fiber front piece alone at best is 600.00 with a 2xx.xx press charge from Korea.

Something sounds fishy

Correct on the AMG claim; you are only able to buy the exact amount of parts too ... i.e, if a AMG specific part fails (say a transmission cooler), and I want to purchase 2, one for reserve, I can not unless aftermarket. Nazi's won’t sell me an extra.

That being said, the pricing is nowhere near as high as the claims in this thread for these aluminum parts.

Shipping at 5100$

I bet it's about 250$ to UPS, the rest to Shelby for "handling"

Damn... A hood that costs 20% of the MSRP of the entire damn car (prior to shipping, which apparently involves Jesus Christ himself hand delivering it at that rate). Yea. That's reasonable.

I'm not sure. Based on the below quote I think they might:

"Here is what Amy Boylan, the president of Shelby Automobiles says about it in the Shelby fan site:
Quote>>>>Guys, your right, there will be fake kits out there, we have already shut down half a dozen, see we own the patent on this car and its parts and we along with Ford will dilligently stop anyone who makes these parts. This protects us, Ford and the people who buy the cars.
You have a Shelby Gt500, why would you slap on fake parts made by someone else?

Well you can't have any old riff-raff buying Shelby parts and tossing them on a '05 Mustang 6cyl. It would piss off the faithful who forked out the big money for pretentious bragging rights.

Truth is, the KR is not for people who "spent every penny" they have. It's for rich-ass people who don't ever worry about money. Go smash a Ferrari, or a GT2 and see how much it costs to have it fixed.

I don't blame "the manufacturer" as he so evasively puts it at all. You buy an exclusive exotic muscle car, don't cry when it costs huge to have it fixed. If you can't afford the thing, don't buy it.

exotic muscle car? uh no. Its a fucking plain old ford.

And a simple animal strike with no frame damage should not cause $31,000 to a $80,000 car.

There is basically nothing special about this car.

This. The only porsche that would cost that much to fix is the CGT, and it is a lot more expensive than that mustang.

No "plain old Ford" costs $80,000. You'd be nuts to spend that on one, in fact you'd be nuts to buy any Ford. But realistically the Shelby cars are not for any old car guy with a limited income. Judging by the prices the guy who smashed it is exactly who the manufacturers wanted to avoid.

There is something special about. Its a limited edition car with a hostorical name backing it. Only time will tell, it could be worth quite a big in 50 years.

Your "plain old fords" sure as shit pull top dollar at auctions.

who gives a shit about its value in 30 years, thats not the point.

Under the bodywork, its a standard mustang with some GT500 goodies.

A 2009 mustang GT barely cost $31k...the ENTIRE FUCKING CAR.

There is absolutely no defending a $23k hood for a modern mustang.
