I would like to read about this, so Elon gave data that said in the next 5 years the range of an electric truck is going to more than double to 700 miles? What technology is going to achieve this and where are these numbers I would like to get a look at them.

Which, seems fairly reasonable to me.
Shit, I'd do it myself. some wire, a 240 breaker, conduit, etc.

Yep. Our build included oven and dishwasher but there was a ton of stuff that could be optioned in like blinds, gutters, garage floor coating, etc. We declined all of that for that exact reason.

On some level, it makes sense. You're building a new house, and people just see the appliances as part of the house purchase, so it's all rolled into the lump-sum price. If people are putting 20% or more down, they may not have another $10k cash in the bank to spend on appliances. FWIW... a fridge and stove SHOULD last 20+ years, so including it in your 15-30yr mortgage isn't quite as goofy as it might initially seem. I mean, some people refinance their home and then use a chunk of it to buy a new car or go on an extravagant vacation... or at least that seemed to be a trend in the late 90s/early 2000s. Our builder had a 5 or 6 thousand dollar "allowance" baked into the bid for the house. We went way over that, but paid cash for the difference.

Saw a vid the other say that indicated Ford might be sandbagging that mileage a bit and it's actually upwards of 400 miles possible. Wouldn't be unheard of.

Probably because a ton of factors go in to range on EVs like outside temperature, etc. So they would probably be lambasted if they gave the range for ideal conditions vs average conditions.

I watched a review vid of a guy complaining they didn’t use the type of calculations that Tesla does and that them being very conservative as opposed to Tesla’s supposed “you might actually achieve this in perfect conditions” makes it hard to compare just based off mfg numbers

Are they not using the epa test for the range?

Nobody uses the Tesla system except Tesla, so complaining they don't use the Tesla system is kind of like complaining that one company doesn't us the other companies ECU's on their products. Also the way Tesla calculates is probably a proprietary system with Tesla.

Fact and according to Edmonds or whatever company it is that performed their own testing after this thread made me research, Tesla was also the only EV tested by them that did not meet or exceed their advertised mileage but I will add they weren’t far off enough for anyone to get upset about it.

Porsche Taycan though is a shining star going well beyond advertised. Lines up with a bunch of YouTuber testing I’ve watched.

The Taycan is shaping up to be a very pleasant surprise for a lot of people. It really pushed the ceiling up a bit for this segment of the industry.

If I had 6 figures to blow on what would amount to a daily commuter that I don’t need to put a car seat into, I’d be all over that car

Yep. It is a great looking car, though I am iffy on the tear-drop design under the headlights. Still a great lookin' car and much nicer than a lot of other cars on the road.

Yep. It similar to how the Fisker Karma was when it came out. Nothing else on the road was like it and you either knew what it was or knew it was something completely different.

I pretty much ignored this announcement when it came out. I'm not sure why, but I guess I kind of expected the range to be complete garbage with a truck and so my brain told me I wasn't interested. Well, MKBHD did a review on it, and then I watched several other reviews on it. Yup, this will be my next truck. I currently have a 2019 Platinum F-150, and I'm going to trade it for one of these. I put my name on the reservation list with the small deposit. I'm kind of pumped about it. I didn't read this whole thread, but the 300 mile range is with 1,000 lbs in the back. Without that load it gets into the 400s. That covers what I need to do with it. I'm in.

Assuming they function correctly (no quirks, no failures from the factory on a grand scale) they will be fantastic! I love them and would have no problem getting one.

Waiting to see what Chevy does with the Silverado EV. That should be here by next year. I might trade my Trail Boss on one in a few years. I might trade it on ZR2 though as well, depends on what that truck will be about and what the cost is.

My 6.2 Trail Boss gets about 15mpg and the idea of having a truck that I can recharge every 400 miles is very intriguing to me.

I have a deposit on one as well, but I don't know if I'll follow through on it. Probably depends more on timing than anything, but I dig them for sure and I've never been a truck guy.

That's interesting... I've seen multiple videos of him doing tech stuff. Phones/computers, etc... but never a vehicle, but it certainly makes sense since trucks are becoming less traditional and more like a literal mobile device.

It would be cool to have that kind of range on a midsize truck that can start in the 30s.

I think they'll be behind Ford and GM by about a year or two it seems. Jeep is promoting EV a lot, probably see a 4xe Gladiator before a Ram.

GM should have theirs out at the same time as Ford. They dropped the ball on that one. Again.

Yeah you can get the same performance out of a TRX anyway amirite?

    At only 3x the cost.

$87k is about the best if you don't get the butthole touching add-on from the dealer.

    TRX...8mpg.

If Toyota offered the Tacoma with the RAV4 Prime drivetrain (plug in hybrid), I would certainly be interested.
