    Unhappy Tesla down!

    So this is fun.

Yesterday I went and picked up my 56" Harbor Freight tool chests Thanks again nbmplano!

To prep I moved all the cars out of the garage. The Tesla has a neato overheat protection option in which it'll fire up the AC if the cabin gets over 100f. So all throughout the day the AC was cycling on and off. Come ~10pm I wanted to see where my battery % was at after a day of running the AC. Hmm, that's odd. I can't connect to the car from my phone. I then open the car door at which point the drivers window automatically goes down and I get a rando light show on the MCU (media center unit) the main display and then it shuts off.

So, background story. There's a small 12v lead acid battery in the frunk that powers all the accessories and what not. It's pretty much known to give up the ghost @ 3 years and then your car is DOA. Yeah, my car is about to turn 3 years old. So I pretty much figured I got hit with a dead 12v. Thankfully Tesla is transitioning to lithium ion accessory batteries that should last the life of the car.

The work around is there's an emergency charge port in the front bumper that you can pop to get to some leads to charge the 12v. I go to pop the cover and I friggen hulk smashed it!

I put on my float charger but it was having no love. I break out the big 12v charger as well. STILL no love!

At this point I still can't roll up my window at the very least, nor open the main charge port, nor put the car in drive. THIS. BLOWS. I pull up Tesla roadside service on my app but it's not available in my area? The fook?

After about an hour on the battery charger and several reboots I FINALLY get the MCU up and stable and I fired up the car and quickly got it into the garage for the night.

    Errors galore, weeeeeee!

This morning, magically roadside assistance was available so I fired off a request. HQ was quick to get with me and is gonna see if Mobile Service can swap out the battery instead of needing a tow to the Tulsa service center, but, drum roll, of course everything is closed for the weekend. I'm glad emergencies take a time out for weekends, er, no wait, wut?

Anyway, that's been my weekend. Car has been practically error free for 3 years. A couple weeks ago I had to take in into service cause the AC was on the fritz, turns out it was overfilled from the factory so that was a quick fix and then BLAMO, dead car. Fun times. #1stWorldProblems.

So why can't you go and get a battery yourself and swap it in 2 minutes?

That's what flummoxed my smooth brain. Once I finally got the MCU to stay up for more than 2 seconds, it let me play music but would not let me roll up the window. The fook? Last night's ordeal seriously turned my fan boy Tesla boner into a semi chub

Frunk is the new vernacular for the front trunk, formerly only found in rear and mid-engine cars, but now standard in electric vehicles.

HQ couldn't get a hold of the mobile ranger so they just decided to tow it to the Tulsa service center.

I know it’s a long shot, but in the interests of making this the greatest Monday ever, did the flat bed driver by chance run over your mailbox?

The AC was on the fritz a few weeks back which required a trip to the service center. I thought it might be the 12v at the time since I had read all the stories of it dying @ 3 years and asked them to check it, it of course checked out just fine. The AC was overfilled from the factory, quick fix.

Don't know the answer TBH. I'm sure it's a lot of NG and coal. I can 'buy' wind credits if I want to where 100% of my energy "comes" from wind . But f that shell game stupid warm hippy fuzzy noise.
