It is a bit odd, but this dealer is one of the most reputable dealers in the country. I’d be shocked if they were making this up to collect a 20% consignment fee on a $60k car.

Gotcha. But “most reputable car dealer” is like “best smelling turd”.

I'm not sure how I would respond. I'm not one to be taken advantage of, but my time and sanity are worth a lot.

$880 seems like a lot for a PPI, but I do not some very reputable shops that value their time as well.

I'd do my best to not let it hamper my enjoyment of the new car though! This shit happens. I've got stories as well.

I’d mention it just so the guy doesn’t think you were unaware.

In my defense, she was there to drive because I thought I may have to go directly from the dealer to the doctor.

Also since it's a low mileage garage queen make sure to check the tire age if you or the ppi people haven't already.

I don't know. Upside down in a 5 point harness in a pond doesn't sound too fun.

Finally got the chance to drive my car tonight. I even got the balls to pull it into my garage.

Car is pretty easy to drive. Definitely a good car to “learn” on, as funny as that sounds.

Yea dude, it was very nice to drive. The clutch is tight with a high catch point, which makes it very forgiving for a novice like me. Reverse was effortless and I was easily able to feather the clutch as I was pulling into the garage.

It really doesn't take long from what I remember to get the basics down and to the point that you don't even really think about it anymore. I daily drove standards for years and years, I actually think autos should have a fake clutch pedal because I'm probably reaching for it anyway

Where is reverse on a 911? Is it like a VW where you shove the shifter down and go to first? It’s been 20 years since I last drove a Porsche and I can’t remember.

To the left of 1st. So from neutral you go left and then push it farther left and up for reverse.

No, you just have to push pretty forcefully. It would be almost impossible to accidentally go into 1st.

That's how it is on my '19 Jeep.

What type of reverse lockout does your new car have? Or does it only has 2 pedals?

I took her out again tonight in the driveway to practice some reverse and starts from an decline/incline (side note: I’m REALLY happy I have a spot in my driveway to safely practice this). Getting more and more comfortable, and I only stalled twice. Couple of questions:

    1) No harm in using only the clutch and brakes while reversing on a flat surface, right?

    2) Similarly, any harm in feathering the clutch in conjunction with my brake (not even using my gas pedal) I’m super low speed settings such as pulling the car into the garage? I know in traffic I should avoid this, but is there any compelling reason to avoid it in parking lots/pulling into my garage?

    3) I used my parking brake when reversing up a hill and from starting (in first) from an incline. Anything inherently wrong with only practicing this way for now and then working on other techniques as I get more comfortable? The parking brake doesn’t really hold the car all that well, but it does hold it long enough for me to get going without stalling.
