Thoughts on this replica on BAT?

I'm usually not a fan of replicas, but you just don't see ones like this everyday

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...sl-gullwing-4/

Kinda curious about the legality of it though

NJ owned, so it's nearby, but titled and registered in Montana

I know a lot of guys do this with high end cars, but it kinda makes me wonder if MB would actually allow a car like this to be made

Must be super fun to drive if he's put a whole 500 miles on it in the last 7+ years.

It's a neat idea, but no thanks at the current price of 38K. Especially if there's some question as to the car's legality vis a vis Mercedes Benz.

Something seems off about it to me. The wheels don't even sit in the center of the wheel openings. No thx joffrey

Looks as if the tube frame bottoms out and scrapes the ground.

It looks cool other than the wheels looking like they're tucked way too far in. That kills it for me personally.

Yeah, the wheels are definitely off with those low profile rubber bands, but at least they chose ones that somewhat match the originals.

A bit more rounded classic rubber would help it a bit.

I had placed a bid, but it jumped to $50k overnight, so I'm out

OK, just for kicks I contacted Hagerty for a quote

After reviewing the listing, they said they would do an $80k agreed policy for $600 bones a year, so not too bad

Still more than I'm willing to go on it though

That’s cheap. I have an agreed value of $80k on my 911 with 2500 miles a year and I’m paying $1300.

I have the same policy on my 70 T/A ($80k agreed for $600 a year)

On my Road Runner and Ford Hi-Boy, I had $40k agreed policies on each for $400 a year

No mileage limits on any of them

I’ll have to check out Hagerty.

What I don't get is that an agreed policy for only $40k on my 97 Land Cruiser would be $2071.00 through them

Yeah it's kind of cool. The wheels and parts of the interior throw it off. It reminds of Kindig-It's 300SL. Although this one is probably $400K less expensive

Unfortunately, I don't have enough hair for the mandatory mullet required to drive that thing

Grundy had better rates than both Hagerty and USAA's collector program for me

Same. I've been using Grundy for the last several "fun" cars.

People pay less than $1000 and an additional $150 per year to get a firm to set them up with a Montana asset holding LLC. Then they pay NO sales taxes when buying vehicles.

You’re still subject to taxes where you primarily use the vehicle.

My State Farm guy easily outdid Hagerty for an agreed upon policy for my Catfish. $20k value for like $200/year

That’s an awful lot for an LS engine with some C4 parts…

Looking at that chassis it definitely didn’t cost that much to build. Simple tube chassis, off the shelf suspension and cheap V8. For that much it needs an all-metal hand made body and perfect interior.

Exactly… and the incorrect wheel base for the body just kills any glimmer of hope to become erekt. SMH

The fact that it only had 700 miles on it screams incomplete project that you have to finish too. I highly doubt its sorted out.

Unfortunately, plenty of fancy builds never get driven much at all. It is not all that uncommon.
