And keeping the stock resonator, the first thing most people dumped. Must have been important to "keep it stock...?"
Besides the HP bump, got the aluminum block, saved maybe 150 lbs over the front axle. I can appreciate the effort, and maybe the humor in the hood. If I was going to go through that much effort, probably an aftermarket hood would have been part of the build.

Yea, b/c typically the person doing this engine swap would keep the motor 100% stock.

Huh?
LT1s made 275/285hp in the standard Fbody and 305 in the SS cars.
LS1 made 305/310 in the regular, and up to 345 in the SLP cars. Nevermind they were realistically making the exact same power as the version in the Vette.

What if it started with a 3.4 or 3.8L V6? Nobody said that it originally had a V8 in it. People routinely call the older ones "LT1 style" regardless of the engine.

I see nothing comical or impressive about it. Trashy, yes... comical or impressive, not so much. However, if it's going to be a drag car, it doesn't matter how it looks.
I think you're trying too hard to hate on it.

If he's building it to be a drag car, he won't need the 5 or 6-speed and an automatic would be ideal.
Try again.

Or he swapped out the fail parts for good ones on top of the engine swap...
Details are too lacking to hate on the build. I'd have done the same for comical effect and bought a fiberglass aftermarket hood to fit over the airbox after taking the pictures with the chopped stocker if it was me.

I'm not hating on it, just voicing my opinion. I guess I'd like to know the whole story before I pass further judgement.
but as it stands it's a shitty old camaro, faded paint, body panels dont match up and it has a giant hold cut in the hood that looks like it was from a dremel with drawings on it to be cute.
I think I might get a letter from my HOA just looking at this thread.

if he really was going to replace the hood he should have not destroyed a hood he could have sold for $$.
looks like this was a budget swap as is.

While I don't disagree on the cosmetics, like you said... there's not enough info out there and if its purpose is to be a drag car, it's fine.

With really fat slicks... yes. Power will go to whatever side has the least traction, so as long as he doesn't spin there's no problem. However the rear end is probably the first thing a reasonable person would upgrade for a dragster.

ofcourse it'd need a posi, but that's irrelevant to your original smartass comment about presuming it is and will continue to be a bone stock LS1 that is replacing a bone stock LT1 (which we don't even know was even there... you're just assuming again).

FWIW i read somewhere that this was actually an LS1 car that got hit in the front end and the owner had an LT1 style front clip laying around so he put on there and is planning on changing the hood/airbox setup at some point so he just did the hood as a joke.

so it's actually a 98+ Z28 and he bought 93-97 front end panels/hood/nose.. then cut a hole in the hood because it wouldnt fit.

Lol this is my friends car. He got hit in the front and decided to put his lt1 clip on that he had laying around. He should be getting a regular cold air intake and put a regular hood on soon. The comic was a joke for our club meet that we had on saturday. I just posted on his facebook that he is famous. Lol

This post made my day
|
i wonder why they didn't just remove the lower airbox and make the lid fit under the hood like some of the lt1 guys do, or he should get one of those SLP ultra Z hoods.

I'd like to put an LS1 in my '93 some day. I didn't know there was such a concern with the airbox but it makes sense. Something I had not thought of.

of interesting note, i remember seeing a red 97 camaro with a large hood bulge in a magazine that was said to be an LS1 test car, so this is not all that different that what GM did for their LS1 test mules

Pretty impressive for a stock '02 Z28- must have been one of those factory freaks. 306 RWHP- must have had a pretty good launch, too. Nice numbers for what was basically a cheap car built to carry a 'Vette drivetrain.

ok maybe, but id say 265 was more normal even lower for an a4. dyno doesnt mean shit anyways.. they are nearly full second or more slower than most ls1 cars. dont get me wrong I love lt1's im just calling it as i see it.

car and driver tested a 99 Z28 in a camaro vs mustang test and it put down 286 so no, not all of them put down 300rwhp.

I've seen A4 LT1's put down around 245 at the rear wheels in pretty much stock form (little things like iridium plugs/msd wires, msd cap and rotor, and a K&N drop in filter, everything else bone stock). that is more than 265 crank HP.

Where did I say all? I said my '02 did. I don't bench race other cars, I'll leave that to everyone else.
Its common knowledge the '01-'02 LS1 4th gens were a bit stronger then earlier years. My '98 Formy went 13.4 stock so I'm sure that car was much closer to the advertised rating of 305 crank hp. I never dynoed the '98 stock.
My '02 was run at Rockingham Dragway which is a bit above sea level. The weather was good that day, I believe the actual DA was right @ 0 which is the best one can hope for in NC.

Are you trying to lure me into an arguement? I don't care what your stock ls1 made would be the first problem. it could have 200 or 400hp
2nd problem is that it trapped at 105 mph which at the end of the day is all that matters. and 105 is very common for stock ls1's. in fact my SS ran 105 bone stock.
you don't have some mythical beast factory freak.
youre turning the argument of mine which was... if youre going to do a motor swap, try making sure the motor you put in it is a lot better than the one youre replacing. just because yours made 306 doesnt mean all do. am i right?
lastly.. we were all wrong he just put 93-97 clip on it.

I saw the thread this morning, then saw it on jalopnik and noticed it linked the LS2forums (lol). When I checked the thread again I was surprised no one had posted it yet.
